The 255 gives the names of the upcoming streets and tells you left or right exit and exit numbers on freeways. Some states prohibit mounting the units on the windshield. We got the small screen to minimize blocking views from windshields.
Everything you need comes in the box except for the PC cable. The travel kit is reasonably priced, but you can purchase the PC cable alone for around $10.00 online. The Garmin Nuvi 255 is a very handy portable device.
The unit is very easy to use and most people can use them "as is" without worrying about the map updates. It is a wonderful machine and we are enjoying ours. You cannot download the map updates or register your product without this cable.
The travel kit has the PC cable and an AC charger with overseas adapters if you take the unit to a foreign country where the converters would be needed.
I immediately returned the 2 TomToms and purchased 2 of the Garmins instead. My daughter had already had a Garmin GPS that I had used once and really loved. Some streets go for miles. The biggist problem I had with the TomTom was that you CANNOT enter unincorporated addresses, for example 3 S 829.
I really love this GPS system. I also like how it speaks the street names AND it's simple to use. With the Garmin GPS you CAN enter an address like that. Originally I was talked into purchasing a more expensive GPS from TomTom.
All it does is give you the cross streets but if you aren't familiar with the area, how are you supposed to know 2 cross streets. I love it. Actually, 2 of them. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of buying the TomTom.
We love our little garmin 255.And the price was great. After borrowing this gps from a friend,we couldn't wait to order our own after we got home from our trip.It is easy to use,and has all the features you need compared to higher priced gps.I love to go shopping and now i can find my way around with ease. Not only do I feel safe and secure knowing I won't get lost, it also gives my hunband peace of mind.
Maps are kinda outdated and it doesn't have any updated maps where the highway is closed for repair. Initial starting should be good. It is fantastic to find any hotels even in huge Arizona desert. This garmin sucks when it entered into the city. But if you need a GPS to go to point A to point B then nice. But it picks up the signal very well. It always show you the route through the interstate or state highway. When you starts your journey from a point it says "Drive the highlighted route".
Thanks Delivery was really fast. Very handy and really easy to use. Makes driving in bigger towns much easier.
